Underrated Christmas Movies

Everyone loves Home Alone, Elf, and Christmas Vacation…but I think there are some Christmas movies that tend to slide under the radar. I thought it would be fun to talk about some of those more underrated movies because in my opinion, you can only watch Elf so many times. So without further ado, here are some underrated Christmas movies to add to your watch list…

White Christmas

This is a really old movie filled with lots of singing and dancing. The plot: a song and dance team becomes romantically involved with a sister act. They then team up to save a failing Vermont hotel. (it’s funnier than the plot makes it sound)

The Muppets Christmas Carol

This is a great movie for the whole family…who doesn’t love the muppets?! The plot: the muppet characters tell their version of the classic Christmas Carol tale.

Christmas in Connecticut

This is an oldie but a goodie. The plot: A food writer who has lied about being the perfect housewife must try to cover up this lie when her boss and a returning war hero invite themselves to her home for a traditional family Christmas.

Deck the Halls

The plot: Two neighbors get in a fight after one of them decorates his house for the holidays so brightly that it can be seen from space.

Home Alone 2

Everyone loves the original Home Alone…but Home Alone 2 is just as good! (Not so sure about Home Alone 3…I would stay away from that one). The plot: One year after Kevin was left home alone and had to defeat a pair of burglars, he accidentally finds himself in New York City, and the same criminals are not far behind.

Four Christmases

Who doesn’t love Reese Witherspoon! This is a funny film that everyone can watch! The plot: A couple struggles to visit all four of their divorced parents on Christmas.

Arthur Christmas

Arthur Christmas is a cute film that’s great for kids. The plot: Santa’s clumsy son Arthur gets put on a mission with Santa’s father to give out a present they misplaced to a young girl…in less than 2 hours.

Christmas Lodge

Christmas Lodge is a romantic Christmas movie…it kind of reminds me of a Hallmark Christmas movie. The plot:  Mary Tobin (the main character) has wonderful memories of family gatherings at the Christmas Lodge. When she arrives for a weekend vacation, she realizes that the lodge that she loves has become old and run down. With a lack of money and a nearing deadline, she not only restores the Christmas lodge’s charm but finds love along the way. (how cute is that)

12 Dates of Christmas

This is another cute, romantic Christmas movie. The plot: the story follows a young woman, who after a horrible blind date on Christmas Eve, wakes up to find she is reliving that same day and date all over again.

I’ll Be Home for Christmas

I’ll Be Home for Christmas is a an old Disney comedy. The plot: A college student has trouble getting home for Christmas after being hazed by his friends. While struggling to get home in time for Christmas, he learns a lot about himself and the true meaning of Christmas.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a “fun Christmas movie watching” night!

  1. This is some amazing list. I have not even heard of 12 Dates of Christmas and of White Christmas, and will definitely be checking them out soon. Though I think Home Alone II is even more popular than Home Alone I, and would never say it is underrated.

    • Really?! Interesting! I love hearing people’s takes on movies! I say the complete opposite about Home Alone! But thank you for your kind words!
